James Cordrey
Experience that Matters
James Cordrey started out by turning his hobby into a career. In 2010, he started Qiwi Trails, LLC to develop and host personal websites. As a turnkey operation, it provided an easy entrance point to the world of professional software and website development.
The Cloud
Maritz was the first exposure to the Azure platform for James. Sitecore, (the Content Management System of choice for Maritz) was already hosted in Azure, but the entire dev team was being rebuilt from the ground up - nobody had experience with the CMS, or Azure.
After spending the first 9 months learning the system and developing 3 new websites from the ground up, the team became certified on the platform, and began working to make sure the architecture was modernized. One of the biggest design flaws that needed to be addressed was the amount of time a deployment took - nobody was pleased with the 20+ minute restart time, and the need for middle-of-the-night deployments. Using Azure's deployment slot feature along with Azure Devops, James implemented 1 click 0-downtime deployments for the Quality Assurance, User Acceptance Testing, and Production environments.
